About Hayfield

Founded in 1967, Hayfield Montessori was one of the first Montessori schools in Kentucky and was only one of three elementary Montessori Schools in the United States. Hayfield is a private, non-denominational school which is open to all and welcomes children from different races, creeds and nationalities.

Hayfield currently offers preschool and kindergarten ages 3-6. With an enrollment of 40+ students, Hayfield is a community that offers a truly unique educational experience for each child.

Hayfield Montessori School promotes learning for life by allowing children to joyfully progress at their own pace. The Montessori Method acknowledges each child’s distinct gifts and needs. A peaceful child knows how to live and work and cooperate in harmony with others.

Our consistently high rate of achievement testing is a direct result of our child-centered education philosophy and the sincere dedication of our teachers. Our strong academic program focuses on teaching the whole child to build a foundation for learning for life. By allowing children to explore their own interests and abilities, Hayfield helps children achieve their full potential.

According to the International Montessori Index, studies show that Montessori children are well prepared for later life academically, socially and emotionally. In addition to scoring well on standardized tests, Montessori children rank above average on such criteria as following directions, turning in work on-time, listening attentively, using basic skills, showing responsibility, asking provocative questions, showing enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new situations.

Hayfield Montessori School divides students into the following groups:

  • 3-6 year olds (preschool)

The ideal age for enrollment in the preschool is between 3.0 and 3.6 years old, depending on the maturity of the child.

Observing our students at work and play speaks for itself. We invite you to visit Hayfield by appointment during the months of October through April. Contact us to observe a class in progress.
